About Kristin Malaer, LCSW-S
With more than a decade of experience as a social worker in hospital-based and medically complex care settings within the Texas Medical Center, I have developed a deep understanding of the challenges faced by individuals living with chronic and life-threatening illnesses. My experience in heart and lung transplantation, LVAD and mechanical circulatory support, chronic illness, and palliative and end-of-life care has given me a profound appreciation for the mind-body connection and the importance of holistic care.
Passionate about empowering others to navigate chronic illness, I have taught educational classes and facilitated support groups for patients and caregivers. As a lifelong learner, I remain committed to ongoing professional development through training in Internal Family Systems, Somatic Experiencing, and trauma-informed care.
As the founder and owner of Malaer Mental Health Services, I extend my expertise beyond the clinical setting through public speaking engagements, educational workshops, clinical supervision, and mentorship opportunities. For several years, I have shared insights about mental health, chronic illness, transplant care, and emotional wellness with healthcare professionals, conference audiences, support groups, and clients. I am also dedicated to supporting the next generation of mental health professionals through clinical supervision, mentorship, and practicum instruction for social work students.
My approach to therapy and education is rooted in ethical principles, holistic care, and direct communication. I believe accountability and personal responsibility can be meaningful parts of growth and healing. Whether working with clients or colleagues, my goal is to provide compassionate support as we navigate life’s challenges and work toward greater well-being.

My Therapy Approach
Safety
We start by creating a space where you can slow down, breathe, and stop performing. Here, rest is radical—and you're safe to show up exactly as you are, without fixing or proving.
Reflect
Once we’ve built safety, we explore the deeper layers: grief, identity, internalized narratives, and the impact of illness, trauma, or major life change. Together, we make space for your truth to rise without shame.
CREATE
From this foundation, you begin to choose what stays, what goes, and what you’re ready to reclaim. We focus on building sustainable boundaries, practices, and self-trust that support your real life—not an idealized version of it.
